The Journey of the Artist…
#85 – The path of the Artist is a creative journey, one that lasts a lifetime.
Unlike most traditional careers, the path of the artist is a journey. In Alakananda Sengupta’s striking sculpture, “The Journey,” one could imagine the traveler as an artist. Sengupta draws her sculptural inspiration from life. “Life is a journey,” said Sengupta about the piece, “and the man in ‘The Journey’ is moving toward eternity on the back of his one and only companion.”

Traveling the path of the Artist’s Journey, the solitary figure’s art is his sole traveling companion. Sengupta’s beast is a simple one, as it should be for such a voyage. As he “moves towards eternity,” the journey teaches him everything he needs to know along the way – not just about art and the creative process, but about life – as it is a voyage that will span an entire lifetime.

Art can be a business and can be considered a “career,” but it’s not the same as a traditional career. You can quit a traditional job, retire, open a business, close a business, but an artist is an artist forever.
It’s not just a job, it’s a way of being in the world, and a life-long adventure.
