Artists are the masters of imagining new worlds.

#69 – The joy of experiencing art is to get completely lost in someone else’s creation.

A good writer can bring the reader right inside the story, perhaps to the point where it might even take a couple of days to get back to reality, even after the book is finished. Dance and music can send an audience on mini side-trips during a performance and great art can also shift perceptions into another realm for a few hours or an entire day.

Artists create all sorts of worlds – some are figurative and literal, others are more abstract. Sigal Vasgur’s recent exhibition at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center invites guests deep into the artist’s imaginative world. There are Many Fish in the Sea features a collection of Vasgur’s raku fish that line the walls of the gallery exhibition space.

Upon closer examination, the viewer notices that each “fish” has a unique, human face. “The space in which the sculpted creatures exist,” wrote a reviewer, “turns us into passing visitors in a magical underwater kingdom.”

Artists are always aware of the impact their work might have on their audience. They create worlds that inspire, surprise, challenge, offer new perspectives. They take us places we might not have gone on our own and if we can bring others along, even better since a good trip becomes great with the right traveling companions.
