Give someone the facts, and they’ll remember it for a day. Tell them a story and they’ll remember it forever.
#22 – The Artist is a storyteller.
The Artist Mind prefers metaphor to description. Symbolism has an innate “truth” that bypasses defensive logic and delivers the exact message the viewer needs to receive. Thus, there are many ways to interpret a work of art.
I always encourage people to share their thoughts and impressions of my artwork. I’m not particularly attached to my own translation of a piece and I find it fascinating to learn how my work affects others. I’ll offer my version if asked, discuss my influences as I was creating it, and sometimes share the technicals. But what people always remember most is how the work made them feel.
